LED strip connectors

LED strip connectors

With the right connector you make clean corners along a ceiling, join two pieces of strip seamlessly or connect the strip to the power supply, without soldering. Slide the strip into the connector, close the clip and you are done. Choose the connector that matches your strip width and number of channels: single color, CCT, RGB, RGBW or RGB+CCT.

Which connector fits your strip?

Two things determine which connector you need: the strip width and the number of contacts (pins).

  • Single color, 8 mm, 2 pins: white COB and SMD2835 strips.
  • CCT, 8 or 10 mm, 3 pins: strips with adjustable white.
  • RGB, 10 mm, 4 pins: RGB strips, including SMD5050.
  • RGBW, 10 or 12 mm, 5 pins: RGB with a separate white channel.
  • RGB+CCT, 12 mm, 6 pins: RGB with adjustable white.
  • 230V: dedicated plugs, couplers and end caps, 6 mm for Basic and Pro, 12 mm for Ultra.

The width and strip type are in the title of every connector. Not sure? Check the strip’s width (for example 8 mm) and color type (for example RGB+CCT).

Which type of connector do you need?

  • Strip to strip: two pieces straight together, or with a short 15 cm cable to bridge an obstacle.
  • Corner connector: a clean 90-degree corner, for example in a ceiling cove or around a cabinet.
  • T and cross connector: split a run in two or three directions.
  • Strip to wire or power supply: connect the strip to the power supply or controller, with loose wires or a DC plug.
  • Cable: 3, 5 or multi-core strip cable to bridge the distance between strip and power supply or between two strips.

Waterproof connections

With IP65 strips, use IP65 connectors and seal every cut end with an end cap, so the strip stays waterproof after cutting. See the waterproof LED strips and the accessories for start and end caps.

Frequently asked questions about LED strip connectors

Do I need to solder?

No. You cut the strip at a cut point, slide it into the connector and clamp it. Soldering is possible but not necessary.

Does a connector work on every strip?

Only if the width and number of pins match. An 8 mm connector does not fit a 10 mm strip, and an RGB connector has too few pins for an RGB+CCT strip.

Can I join a COB strip with a standard connector?

Use connectors designed for COB on COB strips: they make good contact with the narrow copper pads.

How do I join a 230V strip?

With the matching 230V couplers, corner pieces and end caps. See the 230V LED strips.

What else do I need?

A power supply with the right voltage and, if required, a dimmer or controller. See the power supplies and the dimmers and controllers.
